Democrats’ victory in Michigan in November shocked insiders closest to the state races. Almost everyone believed that the House Democrats had too many obstacles to overcome in 2006. Democrats, however, performed beyond all expectations, winning a net gain of six seats and taking a six-seat (58 to 52) majority.
